Pearls of Sri Bhagavat Gita - Chapter 1.33

Bg 1.33

yeṣām arthe kāṅkṣitaṁ no
rājyaṁ bhogāḥ sukhāni ca
ta ime ’vasthitā yuddhe
prāṇāṁs tyaktvā dhanāni ca
Translation:
Those, for whose sake, the kingdom, enjoyments and pleasures are desired by us, they are standing in the war ready to give up their lives and also their wealth.
                                                 Import:
It is a Sastra Pramanam that all wealth we earn is meant for Acharya and his Kainkaryam (Service). Arjuna says " All my actions etc are all for the pleasure of my acharyas and family, but still they are standing in the opponent side. From this quality of Arjuna; we must all learn to live for others also. Example, all the entities in the world such as Tree, Air, Water, Cow etc live for others.

Pearls of Sri Bhagavat Gita - Chapter 1.32

Bg 1.32

na kāṅkṣe vijayaṁ kṛṣṇa
na ca rājyaṁ sukhāni ca
kiṁ no rājyena govinda
kiṁ bhogair jīvitena vā

Translation:

Krishna, I do not desire victory in war nor the Kingdom nor the pleasures Govinda! What use is the KIngdom to us? What is the use of enjoyments or even living?

                                                 Import:
Q) The Supreme Lord said " If u do not fight, you will not get rajyam ( the kingdom ), then you cannot enjoy.
Ans) Arjuna says " What is the use of all these as i will get these at the cost of lives of others.
There are 3 categories of people.
        a) He lives and sustains himself at the cost of other people.
        b) He lives and also lets others live.
       c) He who even at the cost of his own self and discomfort; he allows others to live. For example, a candle gives light to others at the cost of its own by burning itself and reducing itself. Also a Sandalwood tree gives  its wonderful fragrance even to the woodcutter who is just about to chop of the tree.
From this sloka we come to know that although Arjuna was a powerful Royal Kshatriya; still he belonged to the above 3rd category, thus highlighting the unique great quality of Arjuna.

Q) Why did Arjuna call Sri Krishna as Govinda ?
Ans)  a) Because Arjuna felt Sri Krishna had himself earned a lot of good name by protecting his cows and his cowherd kinsmen, but on the contrary he wanted Arjuna to kill everyone and earn bad name.
         b) Govinda means one who has come to Bhoomi(earth) to protect it. Arjuna indirectly said " You yourself has incarnated in this earth to protect everyone but still you want me to kill everyone instead of protecting ."

na ca śreyo ’nupaśyāmi

Pearls of Bhagavat Gita - Chapter 1.28

Bg 1.28

dṛṣṭvemaṁ sva-janaṁ kṛṣṇa
yuyutsuṁ samupasthitam
kṛpayā parayāviṣṭo
viṣīdann idam abravīt

Translation:
When the son of Kuntī, Arjuna, saw all these different grades of friends and relatives, he became overwhelmed with compassion and spoke thus.
 Import:
1) Sva Janam: We can clearly observe the mammakaram (my) in arjuna by referring the people in the opponent army as my people.  Arjuna said : " Iam seeing my people all assembled together not for some auspicious occassion but to fight against me standing in the side of adharma.
2) kṛṣṇa : a) One who gives pleasure to the earth and its inhabitants is called as krishna
               b) Dark god resembling clouds; symbolizing compassion like the clouds.
3) Who is a bhaktha?
Ans) One who rushes to help those who are need of help considering everyone as part and parcel of the supreme lord  without considering his personal discomfort.
4)  Sah kaunteya: That Kunti Putra who is filled with karuna, krupa and daya...
5) The supreme Lord always keeps thinking how all good can i do to people. this means the supreme lord is a highly sentient being filled with great intelligence. Only because he has intelligence he is able to know what are the needs different people require and what he does not require. To execute his plans he has great strength and to practically implement his plans; the supreme lord must have karunai ( the great quality of compassion).

Pearls of Bhagavat Gita - Chapter 1.26

Bg 1.26

tatrāpaśyat sthitān pārthaḥ
pitṝn atha pitāmahān
ācāryān mātulān bhrātṝn
putrān pautrān sakhīṁs tathā
śvaśurān suhṛdaś caiva
senayor ubhayor api

Translation:
There Arjuna could see, within the midst of the armies of both parties, his fathers, grandfathers, teachers, maternal uncles, brothers, sons, grandsons, friends, and also his fathers-in-law and well-wishers.

Import:

Q) Arjuna would have known to some extent the members in the opposite army, but why was he shocked to see them?

Ans) Arjuna had thought all of them were his friends but when suddenly he saw them all in the opponents side ; he was thus shocked.
The relations in the world are temporary, peoples mind change during circumstances. We must never expect anything material from anyone. We must consider everyone as bhagavath bhandhus and maintain ones relationship in this mood.
For example, in Sri Ramanyana, Sri Lakshmana says to Sumantra "My father, my relatives, my bandhu( friend) and everything is all Sri Rama."

Bg 1.25

bhīṣma-droṇa-pramukhataḥ
sarveṣāṁ ca mahī-kṣitām
uvāca pārtha paśyaitān
samavetān kurūn iti

Translation:

Import:

Q1) Why The Supreme Lord Sri Hari placed the chariot in front of Bhisma and Drona?

Ans) a) The Supreme Lord purposely placed the chariot in front of Bhisma and Drona to give Gita for the benefit of Mankind. Only if Arjuna gets confused;  doubts will crop up and thus he will be able to give deep meanings of Gita.
          b) The Supreme Lord gave final opportunity to Bhisma and Drona to change their minds and give up the side of the Kauravas. Because during the disrobing of Draupadi, they kept quite and they incorrectly thought " The Pandavas lost their property and thus now Draupadi belongs to Duryodhana and thus why should i protect ? "
        c) The Supreme Lord wanted to show Arjuna the massive might and strength of the opponents like Bhishma and Drona to whom he is going to fight and thus to inform him to take his duty very seriously.
